Whew, so I just finished Blazing Broccoli, I'll post it on the dot at noon. I pretty much sat in front of my computer for 12 hours straight doing the special effects for this crazy short. And I'm not exaggerating, 7 pm to 8 am. I of course ate and went to the bathroom, but jeez, take that out and you're at about 12.

Anyway, it's been a crazy night of special effects. I'll post some cool tidbits about them later once the film is up.

Okay, so I totally lied before when I said it would be up by noon as scheduled. Sorry. But good news it's done! Well... except for the render and flash encoding. But you can expect it before 6 pm. That's only six hours late, c'mon.

Now I'm going to shower, cause it's been a while... See how dedicated I am?

Well it's less than 8 hours to the debut of Snakes on a Car, and it's not quite ready yet... But it will be! Even if I don't sleep tonight. In fact, let's just face it, I won't sleep tonight. Right now I'm working on the Chroma Key (Green Screen green removal) for the edited footage. Actually I'm done with the keying part and am adding in the background footage. Matching it is a lot of fun. Actually it's not. But it's fun to look at when it is done. It's amazing how similtaneously fake and real green-screened footage looks. On the one hand your brain just wants to accept it, and on the other hand your brain knows it isn't real. Crazy.

Anyway, the point of this blog is to reassure everyone that SOAC will make it out at noon today/monday. I hope.

Well it is now 7:15 am, I'm trying to stay awake until my class starts. I've been up all night editing SoaC, which is coming together really well. Right now I'm just staring at Matt, Jeff, and me in a car with solid green behind us, but the background footage will come later.

The rough cut is done, and the timing is pretty solid, so I'll probably ship it down to Camas for music pretty soon here, I'm excited to see what happens with that. I still have the fun of green screening all the backgrounds in, which is a pain in the a**. But it looks a lot cooler after it's done--just a tad.

Hope everyone enjoyed the ad reel, though I'm not going to lie, that was pretty much a stall microfilm, because the microfilm we planned to release just wasn't even close. It'll be awesome when it comes out--there are talking vegetables involved--but it's just not ready yet. And unfortunately, my attention is now all on SoaC, though that's actually a good thing. Anyway, back to trying to stay awake for another 12 hours in a row to normalize my sleep, weeee!

PS. if you haven't checked out our rss feeds that Jon has been working on, you should, it's a pretty convenient way to keep up on the happenings here at ColCrush.com.

PPS. Last night Jeff, Isaac, and I beat medium guitar hero II with 5 stars on all 40 songs. If you kick ass at guitar hero you are probably chuckling at our un-awesomeness, but otherwise you should be in awe.

Well, I should really go to bed, but I have so much to post about, so I'm not going to just yet.

First off, NAB--National Association of Broadcasters. This is a big tradeshow--over 100,000 people--in Las Vegas where all companies in broadcasting--all elements--set up booths and show off their lastest stuff.

Biggest, coolest thing: The Red camera. This thing is about $25k outfitted, but it's amazing. Especially for the cost. This thing for me put the final nail in film's coffin. The bottom line is: This camera is digital film. It has the resolution, the sensor, the look--everything. Their test footage was a short film by Peter Jackson which just plain looked like film.

Also I saw an 8k Ultra HD footage--all digital. Basically it's a digital version of IMAX. Not to mention it was outfitted with 22.2 (or something ridiculously high like that) channel surround sound which was awesome. By the way, 8k means that it's basically the resolution of 64 HDTVs stacked on top of eachother.

For those of you who watch the show 30Rock, which if you don't you should, I got to hear the producer talk about their editing process, which was really cool. She focused on the chroma keying and finishing effects. Some of the things they change and fix in their footage-like signs, posters, and photographs, you'd just never know.

Also I got to demo and check out Apple's new Final Cut Studio 2, which is an amazing software package. Their Motion 3 and Color software made drool all over myself.

Anyway, lots of other stuff, but those where some of the highlights. As for Crush, I've been sort of trying to come up with a release schedule for Microfilms and CC4, but it's been hard to nail down exactly how much time is needed for everything, but the good news is we just shot a new microfilm today which will be sort of a cross between Shoevil and Colonel Crush. And add in some vegetables. Just let your imagination fly on that one, but I can promise we wont disappoint.

Well the plan was to put up the trailer for "Snakes on a Car" today, but we decided to put the release off for a week to allow more time to work on the full Snakes on a Car. The microfilm that went up today actually spawned right out of working on the Trailer, and then we turned it out in about 36 hours. If Yout haven't seen "Welcome to YouTube" go watch it now. It's even on YouTube. Imagine that!

Tomorrow I'm headed to Vegas for NAB-National Association of Broadcasters-with Jon, where we will look at all the pretty new video cameras out now. I'm there for 48 glorious hours, then back to Bellingham. And that's the news.

Ah.... it took me until 5 am last night, but Milk Battle has finally been delivered. Milk Battle has been in the works for nearly 10 months--not that we've been working on it the whole time, but it was no walk in the park, I assure you--so it's hard to actually think of Milk Battle as complete. In fact, all last night I had nightmares that Milk Battle wasn't actually finished and that we never would be... I'd never been so horrified in my life. I was actually glad when I had my recurring dream about zombies. Which is awesome, because it's me and Matt and Jeff in a post-apocalyptic zombie world with Katanas, an array of firearms, and sweet motorcycles--not to mention things are always blowing up. Does it get any more awesome than that!?

Well, it definitely just hit six a.m. here and we just wrapped up filming our failed summer blockbuster movie that starred Samuel L. Jackson parody. Aaaaaah! Mostly it took so long because we just had three people to play three parts, and run the cameras lights and everything. But it was all worth it when Jeff went flying out of the window of a car--you'll see it. Ah, cheesy goodness.

We've really meant to get more films done, but timing has been sort of all wrong this week. However, we've never come up with more ideas and written more scripts for microfilms than in this past week, so that's re-assuring.

One fun thing we did today was re-record all the audio for the short film "Milk Battle," which is coming out this monday. Unfortunately, when we originally filmed it, I totally forgot to check if there were batteries in our good microphone, so the in-camera one was used and sounds worse than ever. Basically the dialog was just obliterated. So that means that we had to have Matt and Jeff redo their lines over and over again in front of the computer until they can say it exactly like they did originally, and hopefully no one ever notices. It didn't come out perfectly, but ultimately it came out much better than I thought it would. Especially since our set up was pretty rudimentary. Heck, if you weren't reading this right now you might never know. Sorry I might have ruined it for you.

We've also put a lot of time recently into a sweet ColCrush.com myspace page, so if you haven't seen us or you aren't yet our friend (we'll accept you if you can pass our rigorous screenings) check us out at myspace.com/p3pictures. Leave us a comment, though we are probably way too important and busy to respond. You know, like filming stuff. Or making our page look cooler. Or watching tv.

Well we've been up to a lot today, with a busy spring break planned out ahead of us. Today we filmed and completed a news broadcast parody where I play an on the scene tv reporter, which was a lot of fun. Especially since it took about a million takes because the monologue was so damn long. Look forward to that one pretty soon.

We've also been writing for the Film Noir series extensively. We have two episodes completely written with 6 more planned out. The episodes we have done are shaping up to be one of the funniest things we've ever written. Which actually doesn't say much, considering how much we just improv on the spot.

We also spent some money on toy snakes today for a microfilm we plan to shoot tomorrow, which will parody an overly hyped summer movie that didn't actually make that much money. See if you can figure out which.

We'll back to work.

Well it's almost here, the final release of CC3. Meanwhile I've been scrambling to figure out what's going up next. Eventually of course CC4 will come out--which we plan to release in weekly as opposed to semi-weekly webisodes. But, that needs a ton of work first.

Last night we brainstormed about an idea for a serial microfilm that I've had for a while, I'll just call it the Film Noir series for now. Anyway, we basically played Wii and talked about it on and off until 4 in the morning. But by 4 we had come up with ideas that were so stupid I honestly hurt from laughing.

Anyway, the film(s) will feature Matt Thogerson and Jeff Drovdahl as private investigators and will be structured in an indefinite episodic way. Likely we'll film a couple episodes within the month and release them when they are ready. Whether that is before or after CC4 I do not know.

Anyway, everything else is Top Secret, so that's all for now.
